ReguScence (INCI: Propanediol (and) Glycerin (and) Aqua (and) Asparagus Officinalis Stem Extract (and) Sodium Benzoate (and) Potassium Sorbate (and) Gluconolactone (and) Calcium Gluconate)—a pure white asparagus extract from the Spanish Navarra region—was launched in 2014 by DSM and proved to be highly effective in anti-aging. DSM’s new research findings confirmed the efficiency in even skin tone application from this molecule.
The Process
ReguScence delays the cellular aging process by stimulating the skin’s own autophagy capabilities. The findings from two published studies and DSM’s new in vitro data suggest the autophagy process plays a key role in melanogenesis.
Several proteins, such as Melan-A and Pmel-17, are involved in early melanosome formation. When the autophagy pathway is stimulated, the synthesis of lysosomes is increased and becomes capable of degrading these proteins, which lead to the reduction of melanosomes and create a more even skin tone.
DSM’s recent scientific tests on pigmented epidermis equivalents indicated the efficacy of ReguScence at 3% to improve the more even skin tone appearance. In vitro, ReguScence has shown a significant down-regulation of tyrosinase marker by up to 65% and of Melan-A marker by up to 30% in a nine-day test.
Additional Background
ReguScence is a China-listed (Inventory of Existing Cosmetic Ingredients) and Ecocert-approved, naturally-sourced, standardized ingredient. To help skin appear brighter and younger, this ingredient is grown in the dark and harvested prior to sunrise to preserve high levels of active compounds.
