P2 Science recently launched Citrolatum P, a high-performance, vegan-compliant, plant-based petrolatum alternative. Designed as a drop-in replacement, the ingredient reportedly offers global compliance and delivers the performance required for modern beauty and personal care formulations.
Renewable Petrolatum Replicate
Citrolatum P (INCI: Bis-Polycitronellyl Succinate (and) Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (and) C18-38 Alkyl Hydroxystearoyl Stearate (and) Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil) is powered by the company's Citropol DE-4 (INCI: Bis-Polycitronellyl Succinate), a high-viscosity polymeric emollient derived from renewable forestry byproducts. This emollient is combined with a blend of natural and naturally derived oils and waxes and a rice bran-derived natural plasticizer.
According to the company, Citrolatum P closely replicates the texture, occlusivity and skin barrier benefits of conventional petrolatum while maintaining 99% naturality according to ISO 16128. It can be used as a 1:1 replacement and has a similar melting point, providing formulators with a sustainable alternative that does not compromise performance or sensory experience.
A Practical, Sustainable Solution
Citrolatum P offers a straightforward alternative and compatibility with existing formulations, per the company.
“With Citrolatum P, we aim to provide a plant-based petrolatum alternative that meets global compliance standards and supports the shift toward sustainable chemistry,” said Oihana Elizalde, CEO of P2 Science.
“This product addresses the need for a natural, high-performance replacement for one of the most widely used fossil-based ingredients in the industry.”
Practical and Sustainable Benefits
Additional benefits include its being:
inherently biodegradable (testing in progress),
vegan-compliant and
registered in major global markets.
This offers brands a solution to meet consumer and regulatory demands for environmentally responsible formulations.
