The review examines the impact of the circadian rhythm on stem cells in relation to regeneration in both young and old skin.

A review published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology considers how the circadian clock regulates skin regeneration processes.

According to the article abstract, circadian rhythms evolved as higher organisms adapted to daily environmental changes to coordinate cellular efforts. These are important in the skin—indeed, The Estée Lauder Companies had announced a collaboration with Paolo Sassone-Corsi, Ph.D. (now deceased), a leading expert in epigenetics and the body's circadian rhythm, to further research surrounding the mechanisms of a recently identified micro-signaling model in skin.
