Shiseido has laid the cornerstone for its new global innovation center in Yokohama, Japan. The site will include new research facilities, an open lab, and a technical and consumer trend hub to facilitate innovation.

It also will feature a co-creation area to collaborate with customers, a beauty bar for product testing, an "active beauty" station for consumers with active lifestyles, and a deli and cafe where healthy menu choices will inspire insight into the intersections of beauty and health/well-being. This focus on health mirrors a larger industry movement toward wellness.

The site is set to open by the end of 2018. According to Shiseido, it will represent the world's largest cosmetics R&D staff.
