Specialty chemical company SILAB announced the launch of METALLOMIA, a detoxifying active ingredient intended for menopausal skin. The ingredient is derived from marshmallow root and targets the iron regulation process to combat metallo-aging and improve skin resilience.

During menopause, there is a lack of bioavailable iron in the skin, resulting in a deficiency of ferritinophagy and premature aging. Company tests also showed that this phenomenon, known as metallo-aging, is further augmented by UV radiation. METALLOMIA helps facilitate the provision of iron in the skin and relaunches the main epidermal function.

According to SILAB’s internal tests, volunteers saw improved radiance and skin barrier function within 14 days. Further, the appearance of redness was reduced within hours after exposure to UV.

METALLOMIA is developed from marshmallow roots, and SILAB worked with its French partners to develop a fully traced supply chain. The ingredient has a natural origin content of 100% and is compliant with international cosmetic regulations.
