Simple Truth Bakuchiol Night Cream
Simple Truth's Bakuchiol Night Cream is enriched with bakuchiol as a retinol alternative and is said to fight fine lines and wrinkles while being gentle on the skin.
The formula is intended for nightly use for application on the face and neck after cleansing. It also is promoted as non-GMO and contains no parabens or phthalates.
Bakuchiol's Benefits in Beauty
Psoralea corylifolia, commonly known asbabchi, holds natural entities with powerful health and beauty benefits. Nearly 100 bioactive compounds have been isolated from the plant’s seeds and fruits, the most prominent being coumarins, flavonoids and meroterpenes; bakuchiol is one of these meroterpenes.
Considering its reported antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging activities, bakuchiol offers numerous benefits for skin care. In fact, it has been shown to slow the signs of skin aging by preserving skin collagen and inhibiting melanin.
Early studies suggested bakuchiol to be a functional analog of topical retinoids, as it induced similar gene expressions. As such, bakuchiol was tested and found to be just as effective as retinol — with less skin scaling and stinging.
Bakuchiol is not a new ingredient, although several brands, such as the aforementioned Simple Truth, and suppliers have launched products based on it in recent years.
For example, one month ago, 4.5.6 Skin launched Night Hack, an intensive overnight repair cream featuring bakuchiol plus:
Tranexamic acid,
Olive oil
Nigella sativa seed oil,
Urtica dioica (nettle) extract and
Fenugreek oil.
Earlier this year, Sabinsa introduced Babchiol (INCI: Bakuchiol) as a retinol alternative to offer the same anti-aging benefits as retinoids but gentler. Lipoid Kosmetik AG presented BakuLipid, an ingredient combining the retinol-like efficacy of bakuchiol with unsaturated phospholipids to enhance skin penetration for anti-aging skin benefits.
Hallstar Beauty took a step further by acquiring Sytheon, whose active ingredients include hero products like Sytenol A (INCI: Bakuchiol). Grant Industries even reinvented it with the launch of Bakuchiol Ester BCR (INCI: Glyceryl Linoleate (and) Glyceryl Linolenate (and) Bakuchiyl Salicylate), to increase the bioavailability of active and, therefore, anti-aging effects.
We'll be keeping our eye on bakuchiol. No doubt, new forms of it and developments will keep taking shape.
