Chicago-based Hallstar Beauty, a leading provider of ingredients and technologies for beauty and personal care specialized in skin and sun care, has acquired Parsippany, NJ-based Sytheon, whose active ingredients include hero products like Sytenol A (INCI: Bakuchiol).

Bakuchiol: A Safer, Natural Alternative to Retinol and New Line at Hallstar

Per Hallstar, bakuchiol is recognized as a safer, effective natural alternative to retinol, and Sytenol A is the purest bakuchiol on the market. As such, it will comprise a new product line within Hallstar’s beauty division.

Leading the Sytheon product line will be:

  • Ratan K. Chaudhuri, Ph.D., Sytheon CEO and president who founded the company in 2006 after a decades-long career in industry and academia; and
  • COO François Marchio, who held several senior management positions at Merck KGaA before joining Sytheon as COO in 2008.

The two will also reportedly play key roles in leveraging Hallstar’s global reach and capabilities to drive growth and profitability.

Combining Hallstar, Sytheon Global Footprints, Research-first Business Models

The arrangement reportedly joins Hallstar's and Sytheon's global footprints, best-in-class R&D capabilities and strong relationships with the world’s top brands. Both companies also sell directly and through distribution. Notably, Sytheon’s employees and product portfolio will join Hallstar’s Beauty and Personal Care business.

Carmen B. Masciantonio, Hallstar president and COO, observed, “Sytheon and Hallstar share an innovation-focused, research-first strategic model, and a nimble, asset-light approach to operations. ... Sytheon’s unique, high-performance products and capabilities fit very well within our ingredient porfolio..."

Choosing Hallstar: Growing Business and Developing People

We have a high degree of confidence that becoming part of Hallstar Beauty will fuel future growth and increase our penetration with existing and future customers.”

John J. Paro, Hallstar’s chaiman and CEO, stated, “Having new colleagues and complementary expertise join our company is always rewarding ... but I believe Sytheon and Hallstar have an especially strong affinity as ethical, vital players in the industry. Together, we can do great things for our customers and, importantly, for our own people around the world.”
