On June 23, 2026, US-based biotechnology company FerrinX and distributor Palmer Holland announced a partnership to distribute NanoFerrin, a precision-fermented form of lactoferrin. This bioactive ingredient addresses several skincare concerns, including the reduction of dark circles, acne support and skin hydration.

NanoFerrin is produced through precision fermentation and represents a vegan, bio-equivalent form of lactoferrin. Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring glycoprotein found in mammalian colostrum and is known for its role in immune defense and iron regulation. FerrinX uses microbial fermentation to produce a bio-identical form of lactoferrin without the need for animal inputs.

According to the company’s press release, NanoFerrin addresses multiple dermatological pathways through a single bioactive. The ingredient binds to free iron to neutralize the underlying cause of dark circles and pigmentation, disrupts the metabolic pathway for acne-causing bacteria and stimulates skin cells to increase production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Officials at FerrinX and Palmer Holland believe that this ingredient will bring a new wave of innovation for cosmetic and personal care brands seeking science-backed products.

“Our role is to connect world-class ingredient innovation with the brands capable of translating that science into meaningful consumer benefits,” said Bret Horace, vice president of consumer and life sciences at Palmer Holland. “NanoFerrin represents exactly the type of advancement we look for – clinically grounded, multifunctional and aligned with the future of biotechnology-enabled skincare.”

Commercial-scale production of NanoFerrin is expected to begin later this year.
