The antimicrobial efficacy of four fragrance compounds — previously unexplored for these properties — was uncovered in a poster presented during the IFSCC 2023 Congress. These included: propanal, butanal, 2-methylbutanal and 5-methylfuran-2(3H)-one. Here, Shoko Hamada, of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., explains her work comparing the effects of these materials with four others having known antimicrobial effects.
