Validate the efficacy of actives, raw materials & products in preventing/repairing skin damage from environmental pollution

Genemarkers, a leader in applying state-of-the-art genomics technologies to consumer care product development, has developed an innovative gene expression panel: The Environmental Stress Panel.

This Panel was designed to help determine if pre- and/or post-treatment with a topical test material can prevent or repair damage induced by specific environmental stressors. Testing can be performed using in vitro or ex vivo skin tissues.

The Panel includes 112 genes that regulate a variety of biological functions such as:

  • DNA repair
  • Mitochondrial function
  • Epigenetic markers
  • Oxidative stress
  • Survival/Apoptosis/Autophagy
  • Inflammation

The Genemarkers’ scientific team performed studies to validate the use of the Panel using a variety of stressors, including UV and blue light. Results showed a dose response effect on specific genes and different patterns of gene expression for each of the different environmental stressors. Changes in specific genes were confirmed at the protein level using ELISA methods.
