The present paper evaluates the effects of solvent systems on the in vivo SPFs of sunscreen formulations. Formulations incorporating identical active systems were prepared using traditional solvent systems and varying concentrations of sorbeth 2 hexaoleate, a new ester having both polar and nonpolar segments. Results indicate the ester enhances SPF in a dose-dependent manner.

The non-enzymatic process of glycation affects macromolecules in the skin, causing premature aging especially under diabetic, xerotic and elderly conditions. As the present research describes, a mechanism of deglycation can be used to target these conditions using an imidazole derivate. Here, in vitro and in vivo assays on diabetic, xerotic and elderly panels show statistically significant positive results.
