Color in hair is due to the presence of pigments; either melanin (black or brown) or pheomelanin (red or yellow). If these pigments are lacking, the hair is white. According to these inventors, an edelweiss extract has been shown to prevent the graying of hair and restore and/or maintain natural hair color. Its does so by inducing a number of genes in the hair shaft involved in melanogenesis.

According to these inventors, there is an ongoing need for the improved delivery and performance of fragrance materials in various rinse-off and leave-on products such as laundry detergents, fabric softeners, soaps, detergents and personal care products. The present invention relates to a microcapsule particle composition based on a sol-gel material having a core encapsulated within a microcapsular shell. The core may contain at least one active ingredient, such as but not limited to a fragrance.

To produce the microcapsules, first an appropriate amount of sol-gel precursor and fragrance oil are mixed, then cooled. Next, a surfactant solution is prepared. The sol-gel precursor and fragrance oil are added to the surfactant solution and the mixture is homogenized. A defoamer is added as needed and the mixture is allowed to cure to form the microcapsule particle composition.

The compositions may be used to treat or protect against hair color changes, embrittlement, lack of luster, tangles, split ends and/or unmanageability of hair; as well as skin erythema, burns, lentigo, keratotic lesions and wrinkles.
