India Bans Importation of Cosmetics Tested on Animals

On Oct. 13, 2014, India's Ministry of Health and Welfare made an addition to its Drugs and Cosmetics Rules that prohibited the importation of cosmetics that are tested on animals. This ruling was published in the Gazette of India and is labeled as rule 135-B.

According to the ruling, products tested on animals will not be let into the country 30 days after  its publishing, i.e., Nov. 13, 2014.

This ruling comes nearly five months after India prohibited the testing of its own cosmetics on animals (148-C).
