We stated earlier that figuratively, cosmetic chemists are always donning new personas and wearing more than safety glasses in the lab. They wear many hats, including that of a:

detective, to eye product samples for signs of instabilities;
process engineer, calculating and measuring the dynamics of scale-up;
fortune teller and mind reader, predicting whether the sensory properties of a formula are "just right" for consumers;
etc.

We then asked: which aspect (or "hat") is most critical to the success of a lab-scale formulation? Here's what you said.
