Michelle Scarborough has been named CEO of Botaneco Corp. She will assume the role from Aki Georgacacos, the company's current CEO, who remain on the board of directors and will be in an advisory capacity to assist in the implementation of the corporation's strategic plan. Georgacacos is also a managing partner at Avrio Capital, a lead investor in Botaneco.
Scarborough currently serves as managing partner of SMART Ventures LP. Over the past 20 years, she has been an entrepreneur and built successful companies from the ground up. To foster the growth in early stage companies, she designed and built a business accelerator in Ontario whose portfolio of companies raised close to US $100 million in investment over a four-year period. She also established the Ontario Emerging Technology Fund and founded the Capital Angel Network and Canada's Top 10 Competition.
Scarborough is a 2008 Top 40 Under 40 Award Recipient and is chair of the National Angel Capital Organization in Canada. She is a regular speaker at conferences and in the media on topics related to early stage investment, commercialization and building global business from the early stage.
