NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2019: By the Numbers

The New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) hosted its 40th Annual Suppliers’ Day May 7-8, 2019 at the Javits Center in New York City.

Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about the event.

100,000—Square feet of exhibition space

9,981—Number of registrants, representing 64 countries—a 5% increase in overall attendance over the previous year, and a more than 25% increase since the show’s move to New York City in 2017.

540—Approximate number of exhibiting companies, including 107 new exhibitors.

8—Universities represented during the Future Chemist Workshop (Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Kean University, Long Island University, University of Miami Health Systems, Montclair State University, Fashion Institute of Technology and The University of Toledo), which saw students competing in mini-challenges for the best formulation. The NYSCC Mentoring Program was also launched during the show, allowing members to collect and collaborate with mentees looking to develop a career in cosmetic chemistry.

150—Registrants for ICMAD’s FDA Regulatory Workshop, one of the event’s most well-attended programs. Others included The Digital Age of Beauty (featuring presentations on trends, blockchain and big data); Microbiome: Inside Out Beauty; Fragrance: The Invisible Art; and Innovation & Compliance, a collaboration between PCPC and IKW.

Stage 48—Location of the NYSCC Awards Night, where the finalists for the CEW Supplier Award: Ingredients and Formulation were showcased. KOBO Products, Inc.’s 4 in 1 Multi-Purpose Sunscreen Cream was revealed as the winner, receiving recognition again at the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon.

$645 million—The 2019 estimated value of CBD skin care products. CBD was one of the hot-button topics presented at the Innovation Theater—others included beauty and wellness trends, indie beauty and claims substantiation. The Innovation Hub & Solutions Center also featured products making their North American debut at Suppliers’ Day, as well as the CEW Supplier Award finalists.

85%—Of exhibitors have already signed on for the 2020 Suppliers’ Day, set to take place May 5-6. “The show floor for Suppliers’ Day 2020 will include the expanded area used for new activations in 2019,” said Gino Macalino, chair-elect, NYSCC. “NYSCC will also strengthen its industry partnerships and continue to work closely with its members and the SCC to create the best global ingredients event for the industry, by the industry.”
