Explore the Future of Product Development at C&T Summit

C&T Summit (June 22-23, 2015) is an interactive two-day event designed to spark innovation and inspire the creative utilization of science in cosmetic product development. Featuring high-level technical presentations and hands-on practical workshops, C&T Summit provides an experiential learning environment, aiming to transfer knowledge through participation.

This event, held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, is designed to flow through the stages of the cosmetics R&D process—from front-end, leading edge research framed within current market and regulatory contexts, to practical application in formulations; and of course, testing to prove it all.

Select Speakers

On day one, academic level, award-winning speakers were selected from a variety of disciplines to present forward-thinking science relatable to cosmetics R&D. Consider keynote speaker Jeffrey Baxter, musician and founding member of Steely Dan, and security consultant for the U.S. Department of Defense. His opening address, “Asymmetrical Thinking for Cosmetic Science,” sponsored by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC), will encourage creative, unconventional problem-solving. Baxter will demonstrate how to apply knowledge from one area to advance goals in completely different fields.

“The ability to improvise in your thinking,” says Baxter, “is essential to finding answers to unconventional crises of today.”

Next, tracks on Hair Science and Skin/Sun Science offer attendees product-specific insights, followed by a Joint Session on sensory, preservation, packaging, market trends and communicating the science. Attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception to cap off the night and meet new colleagues.

Interactive Experience

Attendees will rotate through four interactive workshops on day two. This allows each the opportunity to participate while keeping group sizes small enough to facilitate discussions. From developing the sensory experience of products, and optimizing thickening; to building a robust product profile with Marketing; and formulating to survive endless ingredient bans, the C&T Summit workshops aim to improve product development fundamentals.

Combining the high-level and diverse discussion on day one with hands-on, practical application on day two, the C&T Summit is an all-encompassing R&D experience. It will inspire the creative use of science to push your product development forward.
