Halloween is almost here, which means you may be in search of some last minute costume inspo. This year, many individuals are opting for costumes they can create out of pre-existing items in their closet. A recent sequel to a cult classic film is providing plenty of inspo this year. According to Google Trends, four characters from "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" are featured in this year's list of top 25 trending costumes, including Lydia Deetz.

Portrayed by icon Winona Ryder, Deetz wears a tousled ponytail with sculpted goth bangs — in the sequel to the 1988 film "Beetlejuice" starring Michael Keaton — that are easy to recreate for Halloween with pale foundation, a natural lip and dark eye pencil. Arizona-based hairstylist and owner of Opulence Beauty Bar Karla Valenzuela (@kolor.me.karlaa) was inspired to create this look for one of her clients.

"I wanted to recreate Lydia Deetz’s hair without having to cut any length on someone’s hair. It’s a way to give inspiration to anyone who’s looking to dress up but doesn’t want the commitment of cutting a fringe or buying a wig," shares Valenzuela.

Below, she shares her step-by-step tutorial for creating the look.

Lydia Deetz Tousled Ponytail and Sculpted Bangs Tutorial

  1. Section 1: Section out a top section from behind the ears to the crown of the head — this section is for a top high pony.
  2. Section 2: Take a round section on the back with the other hair, leaving out 2-3 inches of hair around the hairline. This section is for the braid to hide all the extra hair.
  3. Section 3: The nape area — this section was used to connect to the top high pony and hide the interior braid.
  4. Apply volumizing spray and dry with a paddle brush and blow dryer to control and direct hair into a ponytail.
  5. Secure ponytail with sewing elastic and bobby pins to make sure it can hold all the weight.
  6. To make the length of the ponytail shorter, tie two elastics and attached a bobby pin to each end. Pin down the ponytail about 4” from the base (where it was tied off) by securing one pin into the interior braid on one side and the second bobby pin on the opposite side, going across from left to right.
  7. Fold the ponytail up and secure one more time from left to right with two bobby pins and elastics. This adds the height and length needed for the look.
  8. For the ends, spray heat protectant and use a flat iron, curving hair up and down with the plates to give hair a very undone organic wave.
  9. Secure clip-in fringe to the top of the head, and use slide cutting shears to texturize the fringe and give it a more spikey look.
  10. Then, apply strong hold sculpting gel and use the iron to sculpt fringe into random spikey sections. Finish with hairspray for strong hold.
