Synergic Skin Care: Fish Collagen and Djulis Drink

Djulis, or Chenopodium formosanum Koidz., is known for its natural skin care efficacy but according to these authors, its effects have only been shown through in vitro and animal models. As such, a clinical trial was carried out to assess its effects in combination with fish collagen.

The work, published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, was conducted by researchers at TCI Co., Ltd.; Kalbe Farma; the University of Pharmacy and Science, Tainan, Taiwan; Junior College of Medicine and Management, Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Here, 50 volunteers were randomly assigned to consume a 50 mL test or placebo collagen drink daily for eight weeks. Measurements in skin characteristics were taken at baseline and at Week 4 and Week 8. Results indicated substantial improvements in skin hydration, brightness, wrinkles, texture pores, surface hyperpigmentation and collagen content in skin. 

The authors attributed the positive results to a synergy between the fish collagen and main actives in the djulis extract. Further details were not disclosed in the article abstract.
