On August 10, BASF announced the launch of Tinosorb S, the trademark for the brand’s bemotrizinol (BEMT) ingredient in the United States. This follows the recent approval of BEMT as a sunscreen active ingredient by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Under an agreement with DSM Nutritional Products, BASF has been granted co-exclusive rights to market and sell BEMT during the 18-month exclusivity period. This agreement includes use in sunscreen products manufactured in the United States as well as those imported into the country.
According to the company’s press release, Tinosorb S is a broad-spectrum UV filter that provides protection against UVA and UVB rays. Further, the ingredient is recognized globally for its photostability and ability to improve the photostability of other UV filters.
“With FDA approval of Tinosorb S now in place, BASF looks forward to working with sunscreen manufacturers, brand owners and formulators across the United States to bring innovative sun protection solutions to market and help meet consumers’ evolving expectations for effective, reliable and high-performing sunscreen products,” the company’s press release states.
