According to Aplantex, with more than 25 years of experience in the industry, Bérubé will bring his "flair and lucidity" to help Aplantex penetrate the beauty market. Per the company, Bérubé is known for his passion for innovation and technology.
Bérubé's Background in Beauty
After beginning his career in Procter & Gamble's marketing group, Bérubé joined L'Oréal, where he successively held the positions of marketing director and general manager for the L’Oréal Paris brand in Canada. From 2013 to 2019, he held the position of chief marketing officer for Canada and Western Europe. For the past five years, he has held his current role as president of the consumer products division.
"It is with great pleasure that we welcome a beauty expert to our advisory board in Mr. Stéphane Bérubé, president of L'Oréal Canada's Consumer Products Division," said Patrick Charest, CEO of Aplantex.
L'Oréal's Focus on Environment, Society
Aplantex noted how L'Oréal has been working for years to reduce its impact on the environment and make a positive contribution, improving its entire value chain by: mitigating the impact of climate change, using water responsibly, protecting biodiversity and being a good stewardship of resources.
Among other initiatives, the company uses regenerative practices to obtain its plant-based ingredients, ideally reducing the amount of agricultural land required. This is where Aplantex fits in, as a green biotech company supporting a circular economy.
Aplantex's Biotech Centers on Circularity
Aplantex reports its green biotechnology industrial platform aims to produce — in abundance, locally, in all seasons and in a controlled environment — the phytochemical ingredients sought by the cosmetics, natural health, agri-food and pharmaceutical industries; e.g., antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and ant-aging constituents.
According to the company's website, its vision is to use its proprietary green biotechnology platform with maximum efficiency to offer 90% of the active ingredients of plants – a nod to the meaning of Aplantex (Any PLANT EXpression).
"Our proprietary photosynthetic phytoreplicators are the basis of a stable biomass, produced in vertical hydroponics using [minimal] water and fed in a loop by a dosage of nutrient solution," the company explained. The process uses renewable hydroelectric energy, reportedly produces no waste, and the plants capture and assimilate up to 40% of their dry weight in carbon from atmospheric CO2. In this way, Aplantex contributes to the circular economy.
The company was honored to be chosen among the top ten Canadian Biotech companies selected by the editors of Life Sciences Review for 2024.
