Clariant, Elevance Join Forces for Green Silicone Alternatives


Clariant and Elevance Renewable Sciences have expanded their collaboration in order to answer demand for alternatives to silicones; the resulting emollients reportedly deliver the spreadability, conditioning, shine and skin feel of silicones, plus added sustainable benefits and without potential regulatory woes. 

Launched this spring, the line includes:

Plantasens Flash 80—A lightweight emollient with a satin-like after feel and quick spreading and absorption. Recommended for use in skin care with a short playtime, along with in deodorants, makeup, leave-in conditioners and other hair care applications. (INCI: Dodecane)

Plantasens Flash 100—This option reportedly spreads quickly with a smooth after feel and medium-to-long playtime. Recommended applications include lightweight makeup, sun and body care, along with shampoos, masks and products created for dry and sensitive skin. (INCI: Tridecane and Pentadecane)

The two ingredients were created through Elevance's specialty plant oil chemicals, which are derived using environmentally friendly metathesis catalyst technology.
