Benzoyl Peroxide Introduced for Acne and Pet Formulations

Essential Ingredients has introduced an aqueous-based liquid benzoyl peroxide dispersion in the form of a paste. CurOxyl BP 42-USP (INCI: Benzoyl peroxide (and) water) (Proposed) can be the starting point for topically applied acne creams and a base for medicated pet shampoo formulations.

According to the company, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that benzoyl peroxide is safe for human food ingredients and topically applied active pharmaceutical products for both humans and animals. The company reports that its benzoyl peroxide dispersion is ready to formulate with and is virtually odor free.The product is a 42% dispersion of micronized benzoyl peroxide. Also, the product has an average particle size of five microns that reportedly leads to better efficacy.

The product is compatible with various PEGS, waxes, cosmetic oils, emollients, vegetable oils, propylene glycol and glycerol. The product, however, is not compatible with alcohols, amines, amine-based biocides, chlorine/chloride releasing biocides, most sulfur containing compounds and any reducing agent. To obtain more information on the product, visit
