Hair prostheses are popular cosmetic accessories but many who wear them often experience irritation and inflammation. In relation, Tatera Hooks, a biology major at Chicago State University, explored microbial associations related to these effects.

This video interview was recorded during the most recent Midwest SCC TeamWorks event. In it, Hooks explains the three main areas of focus for her research, and differences between the microbiome of prosthetic versus natural black hair.
