Ultra Chemical recently conducted clinical studies that showed how Biolin/P (INCI: Inulin, Alpha-glucan Oligosaccharide) can help restore the microbiota quickly and protect against new or recurring severe skin infections.

Three studies were conducted, including the use of 1.5% Biolin/P in a cream on 15 babies suffering from severe diaper rash caused by C. Albicans. When using standard diaper rash creams the condition returned. After application of the same cream with 1.5% Biolin/P the condition did not recur.

Another involved 50 women suffering from vaginal discomfort due to C. Albicans. The women used a hygiene wash with 1.5% Biolin/P for 2-4 weeks, 2x daily, with a 4-6 week rest period in-between. Dermatological and self assessment showed no discomfort when using Biolin/P containing wash compared to the initial discomfort.

Finally, 50 patients suffering from dry and irritated skin due to diabetic conditions applied a cream combining benfothiamine and Biolin/P for 4 weeks. The results showed overall improvement of skin health, including increased hydration, decreased TEWL and increased sebum content.

Biolin/P is an inulin-based prebiotic that helps restore microbiota balance, per the company. Inulin is extracted from chicory and sun root and can only be metabolized by organisms carrying the inulinase enzyme. Due to this, inulin acts as a prebiotic and feeds a select group of beneficial organisms which, in turn, provide food for others, for a more balanced microbiota.
