Solastemis is an active ingredient that protects the skin against UV aging. According to Gattefossé, it acts at the heart of the epidermis machinery by protecting the DNA of keratinocytes against lesions induced by UVA, and by boosting endogenous DNA repair capacity. In doing so, it preserves the stem cells of the epidermis and ensures durable skin health.

Solastemis features a natural composition of active molecules extracted from Sechium edule, also known as chayote or christophene. The fruit is cultivated and manually harvested, following zero-waste principles, on La Réunion island.

“This is thrilling news, we are delighted to win this award," said Paula Lennon, group director of personal care at Gattefossé. "Solastemis is the product of several years of research and collaboration between Gattefossé researchers, the French Civil Hospitals (HCL) of Lyon, Grenoble University and the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). It is a complete active that fights photoaging, notably by protecting our cell DNA and stem cells. We're proud of our teams who have worked so hard on this ingredient and thank the in-cosmetics jury for their decision.”
