Clariant and its active ingredients business took home two trophies from the 2019 Ringier Technology Innovation Awards—Personal Care Industry.

Winners were voted on by six professional experts and 25,000 cosmetic sector practitioners, who elected the most innovative personal care products in the categories of functional ingredients; packaging design; testing; production and process; innovation technology; and effective ingredients.

Clariant’s active ingredients division received two prizes in the Effective Ingredients category for B-Circadin and Eosidin (INCI: Propanediol (and) Water (aqua) (and) Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract).

Eosidin, which won in the sub-category anti-pollution, is created from an extract of citrus unshiu cultivated on Jeju Island. It aims to sooth sensitive skin exposed to indoor pollution, improving skin barrier functions and supporting a reduction in atopic prone skin and hypersensitivity conditions in polluted environments.

The award is the third for Eosidin in the cosmetic industry, which also received the ITEHPEC Innovation Award in 2017 and the Sustainable Beauty Award in 2018.

B-Circadin was awarded in the hair/scalp care sub-category. A naturally-inspired ingredient made from an extract of lespedeza capitate, it supports the resynchronization of the skin cell’s circadian rhythm to restore biological functions deregulated by stress, jet-lag or lifestyle. The ingredient received the Bronze BSB Innovation Prize at the 2018 edition of in-cosmetics Global.

Clariant head of active ingredients Ernesto Horikoshi commented: “The Ringier Technology Innovation Awards recognize companies that have made contributions advancing the industry, and we are proud that two of our naturally inspired actives have received awards. Eosidin and B-Circadin are wonderful for skin and hair care and kind to the planet.”
