Symrise has partenered with the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3), holding a crowdsourcing competition for new preservative technologies.
The goal of the competition, according to co-director of GC3, Monica Becker, is to accelerate commercialization of safe and effective preservative systems. The article explains that entries for the contest were required to be biodegradable, free of carcinogen and endocrine disruption concerns, and not likely to build microbial resistance.
The submissions deadline is Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017. At the start of 2018, five finalists will present their technologies at a meeting held in the U.S. The contest expects to offer three to five prizes for the winners from a prize pool valued up to $175,000.
Becker was quoted saying, “We want to help academic researchers or small companies who don’t have the resources to get new ‘green’ preservatives to market.”
