GC3 Survey: Silicone Alternatives

Gc3 Silicone Alternative Submission

The Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3) is working on a project to advance the development of sustainable alternatives to silicone chemistries currently used in skin care, hair care and cosmetic products.

The GC3 is focused on driving the adoption of green chemistry across all beauty sectors and supply chains. One effort is the GC3 Silicones Collaborative Innovation Project, designed to engage the supply chain in clarifying and defining the needs and priorities of more sustainable replacements to current silicone chemistry.

GC3 is seeking representation from a range of cosmetic and personal care product companies, and respondents need not be GC3 members. To ensure work is a current reflection of market needs and priorities, GC3 is asking manufacturers to complete a two-question survey. Any company that responds to the survey will receive access to the results. All results will be blinded and compiled by GC3, and company names will not be attributed to responses.

The GC3 Silicones Project is developing a specifications document by new and existing solution providers about newer, sustainable silicone alternative ingredients. Due to the complexity of the effort, the initial focus is narrowed to skin care, hair care and cosmetic products. GC3 anticipates expanding to other sectors in the future if interest continues to grow.

Surveys should be completed by August 5, 2020, for blinding and compilation. Complete the two-question survey here.
