Baralan is set to unveil a new applicator system designed to improve product access and reduce waste in cosmetic packaging, marking its debut at Luxe Pack New York.

The system delivers a controlled, single-motion activation that extends the reach of the applicator, addressing a common pain point in makeup usage—residual product left behind at end of life. By improving evacuation rates, the design aims to increase overall efficiency and reduce formula waste.

The applicator is engineered for compatibility across multiple formats, including nail polish, lip products, mascara and concealer, enabling broad adoption across color cosmetics portfolios. An integrated auto-return feature retracts the brush into position when the cap is closed, supporting cleaner application and a more precise user experience.

From a materials standpoint, the component is constructed from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), supporting recyclability and alignment with evolving European packaging requirements. The system also complements the growing shift toward glass packaging in makeup, offering brands a way to pair premium materials with functional dispensing improvements.

According to Baralan R&D manager Maurizio Ficcadenti, the development was driven by real-world usage gaps, particularly the loss of unused product trapped inside packaging. The new system converts that inefficiency into a technical solution that can be integrated into existing production processes without major disruption.

The applicator is currently available for technical evaluation and co-development, as Baralan positions the innovation to meet rising demand for packaging that delivers both sustainability gains and enhanced consumer experience.
