Rhodia will introduce its vegetable-based surfactant for hair care at NYSCC Suppliers' Day 2010. Mackine 301 (INCI: Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine) is being proposed as a natural alternative to cetrimonium chloride to condition hair while building viscosity. It also is reportedly easy to use in formulations.
The surfactant is a non-quaternized amidodoamine ideal for hair conditioners and masks for both damaged and healthy hair. According to the company, the surfactant helps repair damaged hair while providing detangling benefits and minimizing the buildup effect associated with multiple uses. The company also finds the surfactant to be easily rinsed out and reports that it leaves hair healthy and shiny.
The surfactant benefits formulators by being: made from renewable resources, compatible with anionic surfactants, and cost effective.
