Read the Label: Verso No. 4 Hydration Boost Serum

Verso850x425

Verso Skin Care’s Hydration Serum incorporates a high concentration of niacinamide combined with proprietary colloidal oat extracts and oils harvested from northern Finland, reportedly to provide instant and long-term hydration. This formula is touted to keep skin hydrated, smooth and beautiful.

Consumers are instructed to use the product morning and/or night, together with their daily routine. This column will review the ingredient listing for claims substantiation and functionality.

Water Base

This formula is a water-based system containing the solvent propanediol and the active niacinamide, which acts on hydration, evenness of skin tone and sebum production. In addition, glycerin and saccharide isomerate serve as humectants.

Hydrophobic System

The hydrophobic phase contains nourishing oat kernel oil; isononyl isononanoate, a conditioning agent; and the skin-conditioning silicone dimethicone. Sodium polyacrylate is an emulsion stabilizer, as is xanthan gum, which also serves as a mild surfactant. Avena sativa (oat) kernel flour has an abrasive effect, while biosaccharide gum-1 is a skin-conditioning agent.

Citric acid and sodium citrate act as buffers, whereas tocopheryl acetate serves as an antioxidant. Finally, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin act as weak preservatives; the formula also contains perfume.

Conclusions

In my view, the ingredients in the formula support the claim for hydration and skin conditioning/soothing.
