Mibelle Biochemistry has launched a pore minimizing active derived from an antimicrobial plant resin. PoreAway (INCI: Pistacia Lentiscus Gum/Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum (and) Lecithin (and) Glycerin (and) Alcohol) is based on an extract of mastic, a plant resin that is known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.

Mastic is obtained from the Pistacia lentiscus tree, which grows in the Greek island of Chios. According to the company, mastic has been recognized for its therapeutic properties, specifically to clean teeth and freshen the breath do to its antimicrobial properties. In addition, it has also been known for its unique aroma.

The company noted that use of mastic in cosmetic products has been limited due to its insolubility in water and its stickiness. Therefore, the company embedded mastic in a smart vector system to make it both water-soluble and not sticky.

The active is said to visibly reduces the appearance of pores, manage imperfections and keep skin clear and refined. It reduces the appearance of pores by tightening them.

Clinical studies conducted on Caucasian and Asian skin resulted in a reduction of pore size, an elimination of skin impurities such as comedones and microcysts and a reduction in shine for a smooth matte finish.
