Cellulose microbeads give way to moisturization in Oat Cosmetics’ recent launch—the company introduced its Oat BioBeads (INCI: Microcrystalline Cellulose (and) Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour (and) Zea Mays (Corn) Starch (and) Color), a biodegradable microbead that provides for the delivery of skin-soothing ingredients.
The supplier harnessed the hydrating, moisturizing and skin barrier-normalizing properties of its colloidal oatmeal active, Oat COM (INCI: Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour), for the ingredient. In this format, the active is delivered via collapsible cellulose beads; these soften in water and break easily when rubbed into skin.
The biodegradable beads come in two sizes: medium (0.8-1.4mm) and large (1.4-2.0mm) and red, green and “natural” shades; this allows formulators to make their own aesthetic choice when using the ingredient.
Recommended applications include hand sanitizers, soaps, cleansers, gels, hair care, lotions, and shower and bath products. Oat Cosmetics recommends usage at 0.5-5%, and to formulate within pH 3-8.
