On November 12, 2025, Givaudan announced that its PlanetCaps encapsulation technology will now be available for personal care applications.
Launched in 2021, PlanetCaps is a biodegradable fragrance encapsulation technology that provides long-lasting scent with little environmental impact. According to Givaudan’s press release, PlanetCaps is certified biodegradable by the OECD test criteria, meaning over 60% of the shell is degraded within 60 days of use. The technology was originally developed for fabric softeners, and the company now offers a microplastic-free option for hair and body care.
“We launched PlanetCaps in December 2021; it was the first high-performing biodegradable fragrance encapsulation on the market, scaled up and ready to order,” said Jeremy Compton, global head of science and technology for Givaudan’s fragrance division. “With a strong focus on science, sustainability and market awareness, we have become a trusted partner for many of the world’s leading brands.”
In addition, Givaudan announced the launch of its IRRESISTIBLE Laundry Serum, an integrated solution developed for the company’s fragrance capsules. The patent-pending formula carries a 40% fragrance load to transform fabric care with superior sensory performance.
“PlanetCaps is the perfect example of how our encapsulation expertise transforms personal care,” said Jeroen Lindhout, head of delivery systems for the fragrance division. “Building on our legacy, we can now offer a broad collection of around twenty different hedonics, enabling tailored fragrance experiences. Building on this momentum, as well as launching this new PlanetCaps, we will, during the first quarter of 2026, increase our production capability in Singapore to meet growing demand across all regions.”
