The Latest and Greatest in Skin Rejuvenation: NAD+
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, in its oxidized form (NAD+), has been identified as a key natural entity in the body that supports biological functions by restoring cellular health. As such, it is finding its way into anti-aging cosmetics.

Slowing Intrinsic and Extrinsic Aging: A Dual Approach
In this dual approach to antiaging, intrinsic factors are first addressed by slowing cell proliferation in skin via a technology based on dormins—in this case, extracts from dormant Narcissus tazetta bulb. Then, to protect against extrinsic aging, colorless carotenoids are employed to absorb UV radiation and prevent oxidative stress damage.

Consumer Perspective—Self-tanning and Skin Cancer Prevention
Although market trends for sun protection might make consumers believe otherwise, many younger individuals continue to desire and pursue tan skin. This is regardless of the awareness for the relationship between sun exposure and melanoma, and strong prevention messages in the media.

Coffea bengalensis
for Antiwrinkle and Skin Toning Applications
Coffea species have been widely evaluated for effects including oxidative stress protection and immunomodulation. The present study therefore evaluates the cosmetic activity of an extract obtained from cultured

Low-surfactant Emulsification: Optimizing Formulas and Conserving Resources
Understanding the process variables that occur during emulsion manufacturing can assist formulators in preventing production inconsistencies as well as selecting the most effective surfactant blend for a given purpose. This in turn reduces the amount of surfactant required without affecting emulsion quality or stability, thus saving resources and even improving product quality, as the present article describes.

Aquaporins: Stimulation by Vitamins, Steroids and Sugar Alcohols
Aquaporins are proteins that reside in the cellular membrane. In response to osmotic forces, they control the passage of specific materials into and out of the cell. As reported previously, one type of aquaporin in human skin is aquaporin-3 (AQP3). Four personal care companies have studied the world of biochemicals to discover AQP3 stimulators from three different sources: vitamins, steroids and sugar alcohols, which are described here.

Perfluoropolyether Phosphate and Skin Renewal: The Therapeutic Index
The skin renewal and irritation properties of two different gels containing PFPE phosphate were compared to a glycolic acid gel. Results showed that PFPE phosphate exhibited activity similar to glycolic acid with a more favorable safety profile, and hence, a better therapeutic index.

Protecting Against UV-induced Degradation and Enhancing Shine
The data presented shows polysilicone-15 demonstrates the ability to perform as a UV fi lter for hair protection and decreases the combing force necessary after irradiation to sample hair tresses in addition to enhancing the shine attribute of a formulated product.
