"We knew already that solar radiation induces so many different types of damages," explained Jaime Emmetsberger, Ph.D., of the Estée Lauder Companies.

"UV, for example, has been linked to oxidative stress and a variety of different pathologies. But we wanted to analyze a different type of radiation: IR [infrared]."

She added, while many studies have shown oxidative stress can induce cellular senescence, they wanted to see if infrared radiation, which is known to induce oxidative stress, can actually induce cellular senescence.

What did they learn? And how did they test this theory? Find out more, including the mechanisms of cellular senescence in general, from our exclusive video interview. Watch now!
