Research published in Health Science Reports explored the tolerability, performance and user acceptability of two dexpanthenol-containing dermocosmetic products for tattooed skin.

A wash and a sun care formula were assessed in two separate trials. In one study, healthy adults applied a 2.5% dexpanthenol-containing wash after their tattoo session daily for 14 consecutive days. In the other study, healthy adults applied a 2.5% dexpanthenol-containing SPF 50+ cream to existing tattoos that were exposed daily to sunlight for 28 consecutive days.

Dermatologist evaluations and self assessments were made for both products. In addition, transepidermal water loss and moisturize were measured after use of the sun‐care product.

Both products were well-tolerated and at least 90% of participants appreciated the moisturizing properties, relief from unpleasant sensations and preservation of the tattoo's appearance afforded by the formulas.
