This invention relates to topical compositions containing fermented extracts based on TCM. The compositions are tailored for users based on personal biological data and customized according to TCM principles.
The appropriate topical composition is selected by: a) collecting biological data from the user; b) categorizing their skin composition by indicating its Yin-Yang balance (or lack thereof); and c) selecting a topical composition containing a blend of fermented Chinese herbal extracts to maintain or restore the Yin-Yang balance. The recommended composition is categorized using a statistical model that weights the biological data according to TCM principles.
The topical compositions are prepared by fermenting a blend of extracts from one or more TCM ingredients in the presence of an aerobically metabolizing microorganism. This reduces or eliminates undesirable odor and/or color while preserving its biological activities. It is then formulated into a cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
Specific fermented extracts may include: Cordyceps sinensis mycelia, Ginkgo biloba leaf, Polygonum cuspidatum rhizome, Citrus reticulata peel, Ganoderma lucidum fruiting body, Selaginella tamariscina plant, Calendula officinalis flower, Rhodiola rosea rhizome, Perilla frutescens fruit, Phellodendron amurense bark and Foeniculum vulgare seed, among others.
