
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced the 2025 recipients and finalists of the prestigious Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, sponsored by Mary Kay. Following a competitive review of more than 40 applications, the scholarship selection committee awarded two outstanding students $5,000 scholarships.
Madam C.J. Walker Award Recipients 2025
- Chinaza Munonye, University of South Florida — Undergraduate, Biological Health Sciences
- Lanesa Mahon, University of Cincinnati — Doctoral student, Pharmaceutical Sciences
Madam C.J. Walker Honored Finalists
In addition, two exceptional finalists were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to advancing the field:
- Lauren Forney, Spelman College — Undergraduate, Health Science
- Ajoa Jamila (AJ) Addae, University of California, Los Angeles — Doctoral student, Chemistry
Winners and Finalists to Take the Stage at the 79th SCC Annual Scientific Meeting
Awardees and finalists will also receive a financial support package to attend the SCC’s 79th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase in New York (Dec. 16–17, 2025). They will be honored on stage during the Annual Awards Breakfast and share their research via poster presentations in the showcase.
“These honorees demonstrated impressive accomplishments and embodiment of the spirit and legacy of Madam C.J. Walker,” said Erica L. O’Grady, SCC chief executive officer. “We are proud to recognize these young scientists and support their educational goals and future contributions to the industry.”
About the Scholarship
Established in 2021, the Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, sponsored by Mary Kay, supports under-represented individuals pursuing degrees in chemical, physical, medical, pharmaceutical, biological or related sciences and technology — with the goal of entering the cosmetics and personal care industry.
