In response for the global increased demand for bio-based vanillin, Borregaard is increasing its production capacity for wood-based vanillin.
Work on the project has already begun, and is slated to be completed in the first half of 2021 at a total cost of NOK 130 million. “This expansion delivers at least 250 new tonnes annually of sustainable bio-based vanillin into the market,” said executive vice president, Borregaard Ingredients Bjørn Erik Amundsen.
Additionally, the company will discontinue the production of synthetic ethyl vanillin towards the end of 2020, choosing to fully concentrate on producing vanillin from wood. Added Amudsen: “Although we will focus on wood-based vanillin in production, we will continue to offer the full range of vanillin products, including synthetic products made by our toll manufacturers.”
Borregaard has been producing wood-based vanillin in Norway since 1962; it is used in the food, beverage and cosmetics industry worldwide.
