The scientific program has been announced for the Stratum Corneum VIII Conference, taking place in Cardiff, UK, on Sept. 17-19, 2014, featuring talks on modeling the skin barrier, analyzing it, and barriers and disease. Sponsored by Cosmetics & Toiletries, presentations will include research on mathematical modelling to understand mechanisms for stratum corneum homeostasis; skin metagenomics; and one discussion on "Why All Models Are Wrong, but Some are Useful."
In the skin analysis track, professor Ronald Marks will describe the stratum corneum as a moving subject, and the effects of age and body site on the stratum corneum lipid composition. The need for new skin models beyond "mice and men" will be addressed, and impact of genetic variations on the skin barrier and clinical implications will be presented.
