Claims can make or break a cosmetic product, no matter how innovative or expertly crafted it may be.
Whether navigating the line between cosmetics and drugs, or leveraging a formulation's ingredients for success, product developers and marketers alike cannot afford to let their claims go unchecked.
What is Important When Considering Claims?
- Both ingredient suppliers and brand owners are responsible for ensuring that they have the evidence to prove product claims and safety, especially for long-term use and in vulnerable populations.
- Hair care claims have begun to transition from cosmetic to structure-function as in skin care, i.e., moisturizing, repairing, etc. However, these must be substantiated.
- Since today’s consumers pay more attention to product labels and ingredients, it is critical to only make claims that reflect the product’s true performance so as to not mislead.
- Consumers are more likely to spend extra for reliable-seeming products—including those with both "tried-and-true" and unique ingredients.
Attendees at Beauty Accelerate will be able to participate in two sessions devoted to cosmetic claims on October 15, 2019, at Metropolitan West in New York.
