Abstract: Adding matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors to skin whitening formulations can help reduce the damaging side effects of the whitening process.

Skin whitening procedures alter the skin's protective melanin layer and may subject the skin to degradation from UV-induced matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). This article describes that degradation and suggests a formulation tecyhnique to protect against it.
