Creating Natural Balms, Minus Lanolin or Petroleum Jelly

Texture is a tipping point for many of today's consumers; so, too, is the use of natural ingredients. To that end, Alchemy Ingredients has launched an ingredient to create rich, translucent balm formulations without the use of lanolin or petroleum jelly, for use in skin, body and hair care.

Sapogel Q (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Quillaja Saponaria Wood Extract (and) Saponaria Officinalis (Soapwort) Extract) is a natural liquid blend. Its resulting balm formulations are stable and have a translucent appearance, with possible textures ranging from honey-like to thick balms.

For a sustainable approach, Sapogel Q reportedly works well in natural formulations; does not include any palm-derived components; uses mild food-grade materials; and can be cold-processed.

Recommended applications include lip balms; body balms and cleansers; scrubs; face masks; skin serums and creams; and hair and beard balms.
