AkzoNobel Global Personal Care has launched a water-based version of its DynamX product to enable formulators to develop flexible, long-lasting hair styling products without alcohol. DynamX H20 (Proposed INCI: Polyurethane-14 (and) AMP-Acrylates Copolymer) is a unique urethane-acrylic fixative polymer designed for use in styling products such as gels, mousses, waxes, creams, pomades and thermal protection products.
Similar to its alcohol-based counterpart, this water-based copolymer provides strong, flexible durable hold and high humidity curl retention. According to the company, formulations using the water-based copolymer impart a natural feel to hair.
The urethane portion of the product helps to provide hold, elasticity and flexibility for soft hair without tack, while the acrylic functionality provides strength, humidity resistance and easy shampoo removability. The combination of these two polymer chemistries gives the overall product properties of strength, flexibility and durability.
The water-based copolymer is suitable for clear systems; in addition, it has a high water compatibility and low viscosity.
