The increasing demand for natural and eco-friendly personal care products by consumers is also apparently driving the consumption of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) or cellulose gum, a natural binding and stabilizing agent.
According to a recent report from Grand View Research, the global CMC market is expected to reach US $1.86 billion by 2025. Further, the agency reported, in terms of revenue, the cosmetic and applications segment accounted for 14.7% of the overall market in 2016.
Binding, thickening and stabilizing properties are the key attributes of CMC, which explains its use in creams, lotions and shampoos. It also is used in toothpaste, reportedly for its smooth texture, excellent salt tolerance and acid resistance.
