Interactions between water-soluble polymers and surfactants have been extensively studied over the last decades. Hydrophobic modified cellulose ethers have gained specific interest due to their fascinating behavior in surfactant solutions. The strength of the interaction seen manifests itself as significant viscosity enhancement due to bridging between surfactant micelles and polymer hydrophobe domains. In addition, these interactions give rise to other properties such as foam enhancement and foam stabilization as well as conditioning of skin and hair.
