Algativ has announced RetinART (INCI: Water (Aqua) (and) Propanediol (and) Algae Oligosaccharides (and) Xanthophylls (and) Lactic Acid), a bio-retinoid encapsulated in Algatv's delivery system combining pharma grade liposomes with a marine biopolymer coating for dermal penetration and stability.

RetinART is obtained from a sustainably-sourced wild strain of C. vulgaris and contains pure marine apocarotenoids derived from xanthophyll which acts as structural analogues of retinoic acid. Being naturally-occurring retinoids, these molecules bind to and activate a specific acid receptor to remodel the skin without side effects, per Algativ.
A panel of 30 female volunteers aged between 40 and 60 years old and showing visible signs of photoaging were asked to apply twice a day a simple hydrogel cream containing 2% Algativ RetinART on one side of the face and the same base with 0.5% retinol on the other for 56 days. Photoaging and hyperpigmentation parameters were measured after 7, 14, 28 and 56 days of use.
Results indicated that the ingredient outperformed the base retinol solution after 56 days in skin firmness, elasticity, wrinkle depth and dark spot reduction.
