
Croda Beauty has uncovered new benefits for its SphingoCare DS-CERAmix-V ingredient, a bio-designed, skin-inspired liquid crystal lamellar system developed to support sensitive skin.
Beyond the ingredient's positive preclinical results, new studies reveal its barrier-reinforcing and hydrating effects, as well as improvements in skin texture, elasticity and sensory properties.

More specifically, clinical studies highlight the following benefits, per the company.
- Skin texture: A 28-day study showed an up to 24% reduction in skin roughness, visibly improving texture compared to the placebo.
- Elasticity: Elasticity increased by 38.8% after five days of use.
- Hydration: Hydration levels in sensitive skin improved by 57.3% compared to the baseline.
- Comfort: Itching scores were reduced by 81%, providing rapid relief for irritated skin.
'Neurobeauty' Testing for Emotional Response
Croda Beauty adds that "neurobeauty" testing using EEG has demonstrated that despite having a texture similar to a placebo cream, a cream containing the DS-CERAmix-V shifted users' emotional responses toward greater relaxation and comfort during application.
Delivering Essential Lipids and Credentials
As the company explains, the ingredient was designed to deliver essential stratum corneum lipids, including an optimized 2:1:1 ratio of ceramide NP, ceramide AP and phytosphingosine, closely mimicking the skin’s natural composition. This structure strengthens the skin’s barrier and enhances its moisture-retaining properties.
Beyond efficacy, the ingredient is RSPO-certified, vegan-suitable and IECIC-compliant, offering a science-based solution for barrier care and sensitive skin formulations.
